It is okay to believe the hype, at least this time. Beasts of the Southern Wild is as wonderfully curious as it appears. But also, it is rich, painful, beautiful, and universal. The story of struggle, death, survival, and purpose is one we can all relate to, and that is what makes the film greater than expected. I can’t stop thinking about this film! The music, the colors, the dialogue … all of it was so thoughtfully executed that my mind replays scenes on a loop. I won’t be satisfied until I see it again. You will probably feel the same. And Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis), what a revelation! Why do we love Hushpuppy? Because she represents the human spirit at it’s purest. She is strong and sees the world as something to conquer, to navigate, to cherish.
Biggest recommendation of the year!
